Happy Birthday today to Allison Jannay probably best known to all my readers as Claudia Jean "C.J." Cregg the Whitehouse Press Secretary who becomes Chief of Staff in the Bartlett administration on The West Wing.
So every birthday needs a song, or at least a little lip-synch. What do you mean you haven't seen C.J. do the Jackal.
She also played herself in Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip as Allison Jannay star of the West Wing. Many of the stars of the new show made comment on her being C.J. which is especially funny when it comes from Timothy Busfield (Cal Shanley S60 - Danny Concannon WW) , Bradley Whitford (Danny Tripp S60 - Josh Lyman WW) or Matthew Perry (Matt Albie S60 - Joe Quincey WW).
Of course there was a lot of poker playing scenes in The West Wing so what happens when the stars actually play on TV, for real. Well Richard Schiff has an Allison Jannay shaped space on his charm bracelet.
Blog of Stephen Glenn who was Liberal Democrat candidate for Linlithgow and East Falkirk candidate from the 2005 and 2010 Westminster General Elections. As a fan of Douglas Adams he knows the true meaning of 42. When not blogging and Lib Demming he can be found supporting Livingston Football Club.

The White Vera Wang
It is often said that Aaron Sorkin's West Wing was based on the Clinton White House. So there was a little hint of live imitating art at yesterday's 'royal' wedding in New York State.
The only dress designer to feature in the title of West Wing episode was Vera Wang in the third season episode The Black Vera Wang in which CJ was put under secret service protection. Yesterday Chelsea Clinton walked down the aisle on the arm of President Clinton in an ivory Vera Wang gown.
The mother of the bride the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will have been glad that unlike Josiah Bartlett's daughter's wedding there wasn't an international crisis pending that required her attention in the situation room to the last possible minute.
Vera was born of Chinese-born parents in New York, her mother was a translator at the United Nations and her father owned a medical business. She was a pairs figues skater but in the 1968 US Championships failed to make the Olympic team. Figure skating's loss became the fashion industries gain.
As well as Chelsea's dress and the mention in The West Wing she also designed Charlotte's wedding dress in Sex and the City. Her wedding gowns are a reknowned part of her fashion house, but she also has designed skating outfits for Nancy Kerrigan, Michelle Kwan and Evan Lysacek which have earned her a place in the US Figure Skating Hall of Fame.

It's Friday......So.....
With the Presidential Turkey Pardoning Thanksgiving earlier this week, I'm sure mine and other West Wing fans went back to certain episodes for Thanksgiving so thanks to the West Wing wikiquote page I serve up the following
First up from Shibboleth we have the dilemma that apparently Press secretaries have to
Of course you can watch the fictional White House Press Secretary coming face to face with the two finalists for consideration here.
Then from the Indians in the Lobby Episode, we have these little incident of the President himself calling a help line for some advise regarding the cooking of a less fortunate bird that was to grave the first families table. The quote is on the site as well, but then you may as well watch that clip for full effect and the swift thinking of Director of Communications Toby Ziegler as he does his best to serve at grace of the President whose hasn't thought through the implications of calling a helpline from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

C.J. Cregg: They sent me two turkeys. The most photo-friendly of the two gets a Presidential pardon and a full life at a children's zoo. The runner-up gets eaten.
President Josiah 'Jed' Bartlet: If the Oscars were like that, I'd watch.
