I think that the battle lines remain ever present, and will for some time. We have simply made progress towards civilised discussion instead of queer bashings being the norm.

From your article it looks to me as if NI has substantial similarities with Redneck Hicksville, USA. I wonder if it is the religion worn on the sleeve that causes this? And yet, even where religion is worn openly everywhere, as in Israel, I do not see such hostile attitiudes, or not quite such hostile attitudes.

Yesterday's statement by Tory Boy Hague was pretty disgusting, and shows we have a long way yet to travel.

It is the small things that let us travel that road. We gay men and women are pretty ordinary folk who just happen to be a tiny bit different. The more we show our ordinariness the faster we will travel the road.Tim Trenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00698536468287397610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14418636.post-47126001943284957902010-09-02T07:55:05.622+01:002010-09-02T07:55:05.622+01:00Bravo Stephen. It was great to see public support for Foyle Pride from the local politicians, and we really must celebrate the enormous strides and progress that has been made. Yes, there's still some nasty vitriol (from all sides of the political spectrum) but look back 5, 10 or more years and be proud of how far we've come. And keep going!Linda Harleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18098552713821308879noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14418636.post-48165435783430258822010-09-01T22:18:00.522+01:002010-09-01T22:18:00.522+01:00One of the hardest, if not the hardest, blog piece...One of the hardest, if not the hardest, blog piece I've ever had to write. I do mean had and I think it really, really had to be said. Of course making myself read all of the threads was research but my blood really was boiling at numerous points.

Glad I didn't draft it in long hand or on word. When I initially saw the webpage, I stopped after reading the first few comments, so I didn't see the really vile stuff (including the personal attacks) until I re-read it a little later.Andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11715684580019895148noreply@blogger.com
