The Lib Dems believe in a federal UK. They believe in the relative autonomy of each region and a de-centralised power in London.<br /><br />In those circumstances, it is perfectly possible to be in power in the centre with one party, and in power elsewhere with another. It is just the local government situation writ large. The Lib Dems are in power with the SNP, with Labour and with the Tories in various parts of the country at council level.
